A database of the complex materials used in buildings with a RF performance data. The complexity of modern
building materials leads to frequency dependant often lossy, materials. Modern window design is a case in point- for
example; use of suitable coatings and geometries to optimise thermal properties of the building can cause high attenuation to 3G signals. Internal walls are another case where use of different partition construction can greatly influence the RF performance. While there has been significant characterisation of building materials, there is a considerable need to extend this database over a wider range of materials and frequencies and to make this data more readily available. There is a suggestion that a classification index (good, bad or average) for attenuation at certain frequencies would give a
starting point to design.
