The “kissing bug” is a dangerous blood-sucking insect that typically feeds on the faces of their victims. Also known as the triatomine bug, this insect is known to carry a parasite that causes Chagas disease, a serious condition that can be fatal if left untreated. Currently, there are about 300,000 reported cases of Chagas in the United States, but the majority of infected individuals contracted the disease in Latin America. So far, infections have been reported in Arkansas, Arizona, Massachusetts, Tennessee and Texas.
