MOUNTING THE APRON
The acrylic apron serves two purposes. First, it confines the water
spray and secondly, it wipes away the layer of turbulent air following
the surface of the work wheel and allows the coolant to contact the
wheel at point of grind.
To mount a new apron, proceed as follows:
1. Fasten the apron to the apron bracket with two 10-32 flat head screws.
2. Mount assembled apron and apron bracket to wheel guard, tightening
thumb screws lightly.
3. Turn on work wheel and coolant supply.
4. Using a piece of wood or plastic, force rear side of apron into face
of work wheel until grooves have been formed into the rear side of the
apron so that the resulting grooves meet the bottom edge of the apron
in a knife edge. Release pressure occasionally so that the work wheel
may be cleared of any accumulated acrylic particles.
5. Back apron away from wheel face by approximately 1 /32" to provide
channels through which the coolant may travel to the point of grinding.
6. It is extremely important that the entire surface of the grinding wheel
be well supplied with coolant. Insufficient coolant at any point, will
cause wheel to run dry which in turn permits wheel pick-up of the
material being ground. When this occurs, that section of the wheel
which is loaded (filled with ground particles), will no longer grind
and continued use of the wheel will lead to wheel breakage in this area.
NOTE:
It may be necessary to cut out the top of the apron to clear the
hopper on small diameters.
