4. Conclusions
SiC particles and whiskers reinforced (Mo, W)Si2 composite has been successfully fabricated by pressureless sintering from “chemical oven” combustion synthesized powder. Increased Vickers hardness, flexural strength and fracture toughness are achieved by the introduction SiC particles and whiskers into (Mo, W)Si2 matrix. The decrease of particle size, crack deflection and crack bridging by whiskers are probable mechanism responsible for this behavior. And also, the composite show good low-temperature and mediate-temperature oxidation resistance.
