Appearance enhancement reasons for exercise
were significantly negatively related to body
esteem for both men and women, but appearance
enhancement was not related to self-esteem.
Mood/enjoyment reasons for exercise, but not
health/fitness reasons for exercise, were significantly
negatively related to men’s body esteem and selfesteem.
There were no other significant correlations
between reasons for exercise and body esteem or
self-esteem for women.
