A curator is a manager of a cultural heritage institution such as gallery, museum, library or archive. In smaller organizations, a curator may have sole responsibility for the acquisition and care of objects. The curator will make decisions regarding what objects to take, oversee their potential and documentations, and organize exhibitions and publications. In larger institutions, the curator's primary function is as a subject specialist. Such institutions can have multiple curators, and each is assigned to a specific collecting area such as Curator of Ancient Art and Curator of Prints and Drawings They are working under the direction of a head curator.
