Ofthe more than 7,000 motor vehicle-related
deaths that occur each year among older adults,
generally Native American/Alaska Natives have
the highest death rates and Asian/Pacific
Islanders the lowest rates. When comparing
men and women by race/ethnicity, however,
African American women have the lowest motor
vehicle-related death rates among older adults.
Hispanics and non-Hispanics have similar death
rates in this age group (Stevens and Dellinger,
2002; CDC, 2004)
