It's all relative really...depends on lots of variables like costs relative to where you live and what your idea of comfortable is..
I'm a single parent with 2 teenage children ( now 13 and 17yrs).
We've been a single parent family since 2007 and we live in a regional city.
I don't get child support and haven't for some time - though he does contribute to one off costs like the eldest's braces.
I earn around $52K as well as getting some fta and b ( at least until Tony cuts it off). I have a mortgage of around 70K left.
Our house is small and needs repairs and renovations - certainly not 'dream home' material, but I'd much prefer it to renting.
We are comfortable in the sense that I can pay bills without drama, eat well, I am able to provide my girls with treats and we have at least 1 holiday a year. My eldest takes drama classes out side school and we are able to meet their school expenses without worry. We have only had 1 overseas holiday (fiji) but we could have gone somewhere else overseas but have chosen to holiday in Australia lately...we are going to Tassy for 2 weeks in the next school holidays.
