There are some excellent kicks in Taekwondo when set up and delivered properly with speed, snap andaccuracy. And a good Taekwondo stylist can fight well when he is allowed to set the range (medium tofar). But when a skilled and aggressive opponent closes the distance the major weakness of Taekwondobecomes apparent....no hands. A very limited arsenal of strikes. Slow hands. Can't work combinations.A non-existent guard.....hands down and chin up.....the universal symbol for "knock my ass out!" If a Taekwondo stylist wants to compete in this kind of open venue, he will have to develop some seriousboxing skills. He will also have to learn how to deliver and check low kicks. Otherwise his legs will be jelly by the second round. And he will have to adjust his stance so that he isn't just fighting with one sideof his body. And that pause that seems to follow every kick needs to be filled with lightning quick strikes.
