In the far future, biocontrol agents against weeds will probably be modified by genetic
engineering. A variety of approaches aimed at increasing the effectiveness of the
biocontrol agent have already been tested, such as overproduction of plant hormones
(Cohen, Amsellem, Maor, Sharon, & Gressel, 2002) and production of phytotoxins
(Meir, Amsellem, Al-Ahmad, Safran, & Gressel, 2009).
