The findings of this study indicate that professional event associations are only partially fulfilling their role. As discussed in the literature review, professional associations serve three main purposes; they allow networking between members to assist with business and personal growth in a professional context; they act as a conduit between members and the community more broadly; and finally, they play an important role in monitoring compliance. Based on the results of this study, the second and third roles are not being fulfilled when it comes to promoting sustainable events.
