Acacia nilotica and Casuarina equisit([blia also showed good growth in the early years after planting but generally stagnated after 3 years. These two species can be planted in alkali soils only when the soil alkalinity is lower than the threshold toxic value for the silviculture of these species. The results of planting at other sites of lower pH showed that a pH of 9.2 is the maximum alkalinity limit for successful cultivation of these species.
