Insecticides are classified into four groups: organophosphates, carbamates,
organochlorines and pyrethroides. Data on insecticide used by 606 farmers in 6
provinces of Thailand during August 2003- July 2004 showed that 58% of the
farmers used organophosphate insecticide. Almost all farmers have experienced
signs and symptoms of insecticide poisoning. Only 6% of the farmers reported
no signs and symptoms of poisoning (The IPM DANIDA project, 2004).
