In March 2014 we welcomed, from left to right, Melissa Simonetto (Mel), Thidawan Lertsitarungsun (Elle), Krit Plussind (Krit), and Nopparat Ninphanapand (Paul) to Triumph Motorcycles in Hinckley. The four have arrived in the UK on Tier 2 intra-company transfer visas from Triumph Thailand where they have worked for 6 months since graduating from Nottingham University. They will be with us in Hinckley for 12 months, and will work in a number of Departments prior to selecting one area to specialise in during their final 6 months.
On 21st January 2014 the Lobe Grinder CM050 on the Cam production line broke down with Power Supply and CNC Board issues. This machine is approaching 25 years old and spares are becoming increasingly more difficult to source. After the initial service engineers report it was suggested that the machine would be out of action for approximately 5 to 6 weeks whilst they found replacement parts. After this report it was clear that even though we were already running a 3 shift pattern we would be unable to meet the demands of both F2 & F5 production during this current high build period. With the help of the scheduling team in F5 constantly recalculating their requirements to help us achieve the build and the production staff in F2 volunteering to work 24hrs a day 7 days a week (photos and names below) we could just manage to keep our head above water and meet the production requirements. During this period our remaining machine (CM540) also suffered a couple of minor breakdowns which resulted in us having to airfreight 2 shipments of cams to F5. That would have been a great achievement in itself had this only continued for the predicted 6 week period. However the machine manufacturer had to completely re-engineer some of the components which meant the machine was not repaired for a full 12 weeks, during which time we produced 25,598 cams. So this makes this a fantastic effort by everyone involved. A really big thank you to you all.
