The most commonly cited concerns by hospital
employees when implementing a HELP program
were obtaining adequate staffing, funding, and
volunteers. Patient adherence to the program
was also a common concern. Patients did not
always adhere to all or any parts of the HELP program.
Reasons for patient nonadherence included
a lack of volunteer or staff to implement
the interventions, patient refusal of the intervention,
medical contraindication, and patient unavailability
(such as when the patient was off
the floor for procedures).
