2. Ask the social butterfly to solve people
problems.Since this individual is a natural people person, invite him or her to brainstorm with you and others
on issues such as:
• Absenteeism
• Tardiness
• High turnover
Don’t be surprised if these aspiring management
gurus pinpoint some new reasons that haven’t yet occurred
to you, such as higher absenteeism during hunting season, flu season, and so on. Social butterflies can alert you
to all sorts of other factors as well. Perhaps several of
your employees have been tardy lately because their new
babies have been keeping them up all night. Maybe others
are missing work because a new shopping mall recently
opened in town, and their spouses, who had previously
been stay-at-home parents, are suddenly out working, so
someone needs to take care of the kids. You might even
find out that you’re losing people to your competitor, who
offers employees perquisites, like opportunities to win
trips and other prizes, unlike your own company.
