As part of our long-term roadmap to improve region performance and provide more and better tools for landowners and content creators alike, we have been working on a project to more accurately measure and control scripts. Historically, although we have limited both avatar and prim counts within a region, we have never limited scripts.
That omission has meant that region performance issues are often a result of scripts being overused; hence the need for us to ultimately cap script load for regions. When a region has too many scripts, it can cause the memory footprint to get so large that performance deteriorates for all simulators on that particular server, which is clearly not fair to other land owners who may get affected through no fault of their own. In addition, without script limits, a single parcel owner on a region can use so many scripts that it negatively impacts the experience for all the other landowners in the region.
