A CUEL MILESTONE IN SAFETY
As of August 29, 2014, CUEL had recorded 50 million manhours without a single lost time incident (LTI). This is undeniably a remarkable milestone achievement for for the company. Such a feat was made possible not by the efforts of any one single person but required everyone’s full commitment. As of this moment, the company has crossed 52.5 million manhours without LTI.
LCB Yard alone has contributed about 44 million manhours, Installation and BKK added about 4 million manhours each. This milestone journey started on November 16, 2009, when an incident in the Fabrication Shop resulted in LTI or, in other words, DAFW (days absent from work).
In fact, Installation has been 7 million manhours LTI free. Its last LTI was in February 2006 – that is a long span of more than 8 years of highly committed groups of people working offshore.
At CUEL, however, we do not allow numbers to influence us into complacency. Excluding near-misses, we have had more than 100 incidents so far. In terms of severity, 15 of those incidents were classified as recordable injury and about 30 required first aid. At present our Total Recordable Injury Rate (or TRIR) is at 0.21. Three months ago it was at 0.17. This might not mean much to many of us, but when we benchmark our safety performance against that of the entire the industry’s, we come out on top among the best performers.
Again, let’s not be fooled by numbers. We need to maintain our strong commitment to making ourselves and co-workers safe – taking things one careful day at a time.
