Once the mangrove is established the animals you find there are fascinating; one of the most intricate and definitely the most abundant are the crab species. These incredible creatures display the most amazing behaviour. They congregate in their hundreds and thousands at certain times of the year. The fiddler crabs show off for the females, creating a colourful dance with their large pincers waving and showing the way. The sesarma crabs come out of their burrows to grab the yellowed leaves of the black mangrove, which they pull into their burrows to chew up and allow to ferment for a rich soup-like meal.
