Summary The purposeofthepresentstudywastoinvestigatethelong-term
effects oftwodifferentstretchingtechniquesontherangeofmotion(ROM)andon
drop jump(DJ).DJscoreswereassessedbymeansofacontactmatconnectedtoa
digital timer.ROMwasmeasuredbyuseofagoniometer.Thetrainingwascarriedout
four timesaweekfor6weekson10subjectsaspassivestaticstretching(SS),andon
9 subjectsascontract–relax PNF(CRPNF)stretching.Theremainingninesubjects
did notperformanyexercises(controlgroup).One-wayAnalysisofVariance(ANOVA)
results indicatedthatthedifferencesamonggroupsonDJwerenotstatistically
different (F(2,27) ¼ .41, p4.05). ROMvaluesweresignificantlyhigherforboth
stretching groups,whilenochangewasobservedforthecontrolgroup.In
conclusion, staticandproprioceptiveneuromuscularfacilitation(PNF)stretching
techniques improvedtheROM,butneitherofthestretchingexerciseshadany
statistically significanteffectontheDJscores.
