Did you ever eat something until it made you sick? Maybe your mum said: “Stop eating those or you’ll be sick” and hey, you knew she was right, but you didn’t stop. It’s the same thing here. Despite knowing that smoking is bad for your health, many people try it for different reasons such as:
they think they will only smoke occasionally and they can stop when they want to;
to rebel;
to look older, more adult;
to fit in with the group;
simple curiosity;
someone in their family smokes or they think that everyone does it so it must be ok;
they think it will make them less stressed;
they believe smoking is glamorous because it looks cool on TV or in movies;
their favourite footy player or school teacher or someone they look up to smokes;
it’s easy to get cigarettes.
