A medical secretary is charged with the responsibility to schedule and confirm medical consultations patient diagnostic appointments, and surgeries; to complete insurance and other claim forms; to arrange hospital admissions for patients; answer telephones, and direct calls to appropriate staff; to transmit correspondence and medical records by e-mail, mail, or fax; to even to greet visitors, ascertain their purpose of visit, and direct them to appropriate staff. They also are meant to receive and route documents and messages to appropriate staff; to compile and record reports, medical charts, and correspondence, using a typewriter or a personal computer; to interview patients so as to case histories, complete documents, and forms; and finally to perform bookkeeping duties.
