Mitchell and O’Donnell (2013) stress that as a therapeutic
approach that does not involve pharmacology,
doll therapy is beneficial and important, but should
be used with caution and reviewed regularly considering
the paucity of critical evaluation. Mitchell and
Templeton (2014) focus on the ethical implications of
doll therapy, and conclude that while this appears to
be beneficial for some people with dementia, it must
be evaluated in the context of rights and respect, in
order to avoid infantilisation.
