The macromolecular components extracted and separated from bacterial species were quite
varied, such as membrane-associated polypeptides from Treponema pallidum, a lipopolysaccharide-like substance and proteins from Leprospira interrogans, pyruvate oxidase from Escherichia coli, a hydrogenase from Paracoccus denitrificans, a wall protein from Methanococcus voltae, and other antigens from Borrelia burgdorferi and Mycoplasma hyorhinis, proteins, lipoarabinomannan and phosphatidylinositols from Mycobacterium leprae and lipoteichoic acid from Streptococcus mutans.
