However, the addition of ChCl to waste glycerol from the acid catalyzed
biodiesel reaction resulted in the formation of homogeneous,
amber colored solutions in the 5–35mol% ChCl range.Upon standing for
up to six months at roomtemperature, none of the solutions precipitated
out ChCl. Qualitatively, the viscosity of these solutions appeared to
decrease as the percentage of ChCl in the solution increased. This is consistent with
literature reports on DESs prepared with pure glycerol [24].
Attempts to form a DES with concentrations of ChCl above 35 mol% resulted
in the formation of solids.
