People are now facing an invisible enemy called “Global Warming”. This process causes the temperature in every part of the world to rise, causing climate changes and higher sea levels which leads to flooding in the lowlands. Since humans are the main cause of global warming, everyone on the earth must help solve this problem by using the three R’s – reduce, reuse, and recycle.
Reducing our carbon footprint is the simplest way to solve this problem. There are several ways to reduce the use of natural resources. In regard to transportation, using carpools, public transportation, or even clean energy vehicles, e.g. bicycles, or walking, are good ways to help reduce energy consumption and pollution. Plastic bags should be banned because in order to destroy them, toxic gases are released into an atmosphere which causes a rise in temperatures. In stead of plastic bags, baskets or cloth bags should be used. Energy saving should be taken into consideration to help reduce the problem. Everyone should try to reduce the use of electricity by reducing the use of air conditioners. Wearing proper clothes and turning off air conditioners at least thirty minutes before leaving a room will help reduce electricity consumption effectively.
Reuse products is another good way to solve this crisis. Plastic bags should be used again and again until they are not able to be used anymore. Paper should be used on both sides before being destroyed so as to reduce deforestation. After being used completely, they are still useful, because we can still use them to wrap up things or make them into paper bags. Glass bottles can be washed and reused repeatedly, while plastic ones can be modified into lightweight flower pots that can be hung around windows. The water which was used for washing or bathing can be used for watering plants.
A more complicated way to reduce the effects of global warming is to recycle. Recycle is a process that needs scientific knowledge and energy to change or to rebuild things. Plastic bags, after being used until they are unable to be used anymore, can be sent to a recycling center. In stead of being destroyed which will release toxic substances into the atmosphere, they can be recycled. Not only plastic bags, but also paper can be recycled. Wastepaper can be collected and sent to recycling factories to make lower quality papers. Although the quality is not the same as the original paper, it can still be used for some purposes, e.g. as paper bags or toilet paper.
Global warming situation is now a crisis. Human as the problem makers and the ones who will be affected by the crisis, need to help solve the problem by reducing, reusing, and recycling. This will save the world for ourselves and our descendants.
