It appears that social and environmental issues among the country’s largest hotel companies
constitute a peripheral issue. Thus, the preoccupation of the majority of the hotel
chains remains the profit motive. In relation to the broader literature, the conclusion by
Papaspyropoulos et al.’s (2010) study that the low extent of reporting by Greece’s
Athens Stock Exchange listed corporations was because CSR is still an emerging
