The balanced system approach dictates that advances in
each subsystem be matched by advances in the other subsystems
so that performance bottlenecks are not created. Each
successive system generation enables new software solutions
in a continual cycle that advances existing and creates new usage
scenarios for computers. The power subsystem and resulting
power usage by components is an integral part of the
infrastructure that supports this cycle. The challenge for the industry
is to implement power subsystems that can more efficiently
meet the increasing demands of future computing
platforms.
