3.1. Contextual factors relevant for research based ITE
Table 1 (ITE for grades 1–7) and Table 2 (ITE for grades 5–10) provide an overview of the number and percentage of faculty employed within six different faculty categories. In Norway, there are two tracks that are possible within higher education: (1) the research track where a person with a Master degree (university lecturer) gets a PhD and becomes an Associate Professor and can continue onwards to become Professor, or (2) the teaching & development track where a person with a Master degree (university lecturer) continues and excels within development of studies and for instance works on school development projects or other outreach projects that can be documented and which can result in publications etc. that are regarded as equivalent in terms of work load to a PhD.
