The energy demand is also important to achieve economic
efficiency and sustainability for a ground water supply
system. Each function of water supply system is taken into
account for calculation of energy consumption excluding
water management, water treatment and water storage.
Energy demand for water catchment includes electricity for
pumping groundwater out of the tube-wells only as
rainwater harvesting does not require electricity. For
extraction of water from tube-wells eight submersible
pumps are used in the tube-wells. The rated power of each
pump is multiplied with the running time of the pump to
determine the energy requirement. The total energy demand
for water catchment is calculated to be 1,583 to 1,621
kilowatt hours per day.
