In terms of territorial rights, statistical systems should be able to provide information on the
various aspects (social, demographic, biotic, physiographical, etc.) of indigenous territories, including the location of human settlements and their spatial distribution. One key element is being able to determine the geographical boundaries of the territory, considering the real limits ofsociocultural interaction of each people. However, this can be a difficult task when several ethnic groups live in the same territory or when members of a certain indigenous people extend over a large part of the country (as in Guatemala and Mexico). Political will is another important factor.
