In conclusion, we have demonstrated protection against poorly
adapted H5N1 and H5N2 AIVs in pigs infected 4 weeks earlier
with an H1N1 SIV. Our data further support the notion that part of
the human population may have some degree of cross-protection
against H5N1 because of exposure to H1N1 viruses. On the other
hand, it remains to be proven whether significant cross-protection
would also occur against H5N1 viruses that are better adapted for
replication in mammals or with a more distant N1
