Analyses of data obtained from the pre- and post-education
questionnaires demonstrated a significant overall improvement
in the nurses’ knowledge related to EBP for CVAD management
(p < .05). The largest gain in knowledge related to the
use of nonheparinized saline being as effective as heparinized
saline for maintaining patency of CVADs. The second largest
gain in knowledge related to the proper technique for flushing
central lines when using the Ultrasite® positive-pressure
adapter. See Table 2 for specific outcomes for each question
asked on the questionnaire. There was no significant difference
among nurses with varying years of experience or differences
in educational preparation.
