Alex, regarding the first page of the mobile platform: the current
system shows 'Featured' and "new" products. I want to show them
Collections so that customers who have never visited us can glance
through what kind of stuff we offer. alternatively, they can click on
the menu and choose their mobile phone model first, and take it from
there. but it has to be thoroughly revised.
can you see how people navigate through our website from their iphones?
because if the first thing people do is to choose the mobile phone
model (I would do that if I wanted to buy a case coz older models
would not interest me), then we should have an automatic pop up window
IMMEDIATELY UPON ENTERING THE WEBSITE where you choose the mobile
phone model, and only the relevant pages will be shown. this would
save a lot of clicking, in my opinion.
The first thing people do is to choose the mobile phone model -
I completely agree with that. However, showing an automatic pop-up,
and any other pop-up, is rather a bad UI. What if we just expand the
menu by default on the homepage - see attached. Technically it's easy,
no design required.
I'll try to understand how people navigate through our website from
their iphones - let you know later.
"Featured' and "Products" are not the words to be used on the
homepage. To help users make a purchase decision, I'd suggest use "Top
Seller Cases" or "Most Popular Cases" - we have stats which cases are
actually best sellers. Showing them Collections is a good idea - but
we have really many Collections and have only a few second for a new
user. How to explain which one is to choose.
If we're talking about Collections, I think that every Collection page
like http://bling-my-thing.com/312-bmt-extravaganza or
http://bling-my-thing.com/308-ayano-glam should have a banner that
explain what makes a particular collection awesome. See now there're
only a list of products. That's an important think. I'd also add a
short text to pop-up menu - i.e. when users navigate across our menu,
they get a short explanatory text (5 words) about given collection.
