C. Characteristics of Typical Microcontrollers At the present time, motion control engineers have a broad choice of microcontrollers available on the market with various features. It is impossible to describe here all of them. We will examine only those designed and produced by Intel Corp. and Motorola Inc. which are among the most popular microcontrollers used in embedded control applications. Their structures and characteristics can give a good idea on the features and performance of typical microcontrollers presently available. Tables 3 and 4 show the key features of 8-, 16-, and 32-bit microcontroller families offered by Intel Corp. and Motorola Inc.
