Womack and Jones (2003) advocate the application of Lean thinking in the medical systems. They
argue that the first step in implementing Lean thinking in medical care is to put the patient in the
foreground and include time and comfort as key performance measures of the system. Having
multi-skilled teams taking care of the patient and an active involvement of the patient in the process
is emphasized [2].
