Interaction between thermal condition and period was significant for ADFI, ADG and G:F ratio (Table 2). Before the LPS challenge, pigs at HT had lower ADFI (1503 vs. 1736 g/day, P < 0.05) and
ADG (632 vs. 844 g/day, P < 0.05) than pigs kept under TN conditions, while no difference was observed for the G:F ratio
(mean = 0.45). The LPS challenge induced a reduction in ADFI in both
TN and HT groups but the magnitude of the decrease was greater
in pigs kept at TN than at HT (−509 vs. −286 g/day; interaction:
P < 0.01). The LPS challenge also resulted in lower ADG (−501 g/
day) and G:F ratio (−0.22) in pigs kept at TN but not at HT (interaction: P < 0.001).
