Scenario A1 was modeled in EASEWASTE and the results show that 1038.9 t of CO2 are released from the whole food waste management system every day. Of these emissions, 821.4 t originate from biological carbon in food waste landfilling, and the remaining 217.5 t originate from fossil fuel consumption. Methane released from landfills is the major source of global warming. The potential impact results indicate that the total methane amount of 81.7 t per day is equal to 1.88 × 106 kgCO2-eq in terms of global warming. In addition, the whole system contributes greatly to the ecotoxicity in water given the fuel consumption and leachate associated with landfill.
