Socially Responsible Supplier Selection
The focus of this manuscript lies at the intersection
of the sustainability, CSR, and supplier selection
domains. We formally define SRSS as a firm’s capabilities
for and/or orientation toward selection of suppliers that
embrace sustainability and CSR principles when conducting
normal operations. This definition stems from the
modern influx of sustainability and CSR postulates
into the field of supply chain management, for the
reasons described earlier. Based on the existing works,
we operationalize SRSS as a higher-order, formative
construct including six integrated subdimensions
adapted from Carter and Jennings (2002a,b) and
Walker and Jones (2012). These dimensions are follows:
supplier diversity focus, supplier environmental
focus, supplier ethical treatment, supplier human
rights focus, firm community focus, and supplier
safety focus.
