The
German and foreign obstetric societies have not
issued any binding recommendations for the indications
and/or technique of either of these two interventions.
A meta-analysis has revealed that, at least
for a defined high-risk group of pregnant women
who have had a preterm birth in the past and who
now have a shortened cervix, perinatal morbidity and
mortality can be significantly lowered (OR 0.64,
95% CI 0.45–0.91) (13).
