Cocoons were hole punched to make samples with a diameter of 3.5 mm which were glued onto superconducting tape and sputter coated in Quorum Technologies SC 7620. Fibres were inserted into fine tubes and chopped perpendicular to the fibre lengths. And the tubes with fibres were glued onto tape and sputter coated. Then the coated samples were transferred into the Jeol Neoscope JCM-5000 Scanning Electron Microscope for observation at 15 kV voltage. Both the inner and outer sides of cocoons were observed. After mechanical testing the samples were collected. The inner and outer layers of cocoons were observed using scanning electron microscope (SEM) with the same procedure.
