It was also possible to compare the wage distributions of these
two groups. Figure 5 shows that the wage distribution of dropouts
is skewed to the low end of the scale, and the distribution for
graduates is more spread out, especially at the higher wage levels.
Only 3.8 percent of the dropouts earned hourly wages in excess
of $14.00, compared with 32.0 percent of the graduates. The
economic condition of welfare recipients who left the university
was clearly inferior to that of those who graduated.
