For the porosity measurements samples were put into the penetrometer
and placed into the filling device to out gas by vacuum
application. Then the system pressure increased slowly up to atmospheric
pressure to fill the penetrometer withmercury and measure
the volume of pores having radii between approximately 200-4m.
The penetrometer containing the sample and mercury placed into
the pressure vessel and system pressure increased up to 227MPa
continuously tomeasure pore volumes in the range fromabout 7 to
0.0032m radius. In these measurements the pores are assumed
to be cylindrical andWashburn Equation [33]was used to calculate
the pore radius.
