The city built completely on water is surrounded by some of the most breathtaking scenery in all of Italy. Venice lies at the north end of the Adriane Sea, about 3 miles off the coast of Italy (Vidal). Perhaps one of the most visited landmarks is the Grand Canal, winding through the heart of Venice. Visitors are able to glide down the sparkling canal in gondolas as they view the beautiful city around them. The romantic and charming gondola rides also consist of musicians and singers serenading couples with popular Italian songs, making them even more magical (Bakerjian). The top sight in all of Venice is the Basillca San Marco, the city’s most famous church. Here couples go on a lift that takes them over rooftops and lagoons allowing them to oversee the whole city (Venice Landmarks). The magnificent Piazza San Marco is another key element to the city. It is said that Napoleon called San Marco "the drawing room of Europe." (St. Mark’s). Tourists from all around the world go there to walk the streets filled with rich lavishness. They are able to see exciting, buzzing parts of Venice while still being able to appreciate its unique beauty. San Marco’s square also consists of elegant restaurants located along the glimmering canal.
