The method of red light treatment was based on the study by Alba et al. (2000), however, the tomatoes were exposed to all six Gro-lux lamps for 12 min, turned over, and exposed again for a further 12 min, equalling a total daily treatment energy of 24.3 KkJ/m2. Control tomatoes were placed into the box with lights off for 12 min, turned over, and then left for a further 12 min.
