The study’s cancer patients who visited the ED were admitted to hospital in 76% of their ED visits. As
expected, patients were triaged at a higher acuity and had a longer LOS in the ED when they were admitted
from that ED visit. Main reasons for the visits when patients were admitted were somewhat comparable with
those when they were not admitted, suggesting that it was the acuity, more than the main reason for the visit,
that affected whether they were admitted (see Table 3).
