This is a sad story that occured in the shark diving community- By now, most have heard of or seen this video online of what can go wrong with cage diving. We are offering only awareness of a situation , as this did not invlove us. The metal of the cage can create elctromagnetic stimulation for sharks which can cause them to continue towards a cage. Metals and salt water exchange electrons, iron lose electrons and the oxygen gains electrons. This movement of electrons creates an electrical field detected by the shark's ampullae de lorenzini. When the animal go close to metals, this electrical stimulation generates a curiosity and can cause a biting or bumping reaction towards metal objects. This is another reason why we prefer natural out-of-cage interactions with sharks.
