This is a lovely and different hotel in Wong Chuk Hang in the south of Hong Kong. The decor is very original and quirky. I understand that the hotel is a warehouse conversion and the decor is intended to reflect the heritage.
The Deluxe Queen room that I am in is quite small and compact but I think this is the Hong Kong way of life rather than a failing on the part of the hotel. The bed is very comfy and the air conditioning is not too noisy at all. I am here in the summer and I can say you will need it! I am a business traveller, so the lack of a desk is a bit of a minus point but you can sit at tables in the Lo Lounge if you want to work. Up on the 17th Floor I have a good view towards Ocean Park. A mini bar with a plentiful supply of bottled water (again essential in the summer), soft drinks and a couple of bottles of lager is free! My room is set to be serviced every other day. I'm not sure if this is hotel policy or just the deal we have with the hotel for the 4 rooms we have booked in total, so the mini bar is not replenished daily. There is also a safe. There was also a little bag of goodies on arrival. Each room is supplied with a free tote bag. Mine comes in very handy for trips to the 7-11 (only just outside the rear entrance) and carrying stuff to and from work.
The bathroom actually has no bath. It is more of a wet room with a very nice shower. Again, a slight minus point - it is quite easy to flood the floor if you stay in too long! The shower area really needs more of a curb to stop this happening. A good shower is essential for my summer stay. It is nice and powerful but you have to be quick! Plenty of toiletries are provided, even toothbrushes and toothpaste.
There is a restaurant and a rooftop bar. You will need to check hours of opening as they are not the same. The food is delicious and very well prepared in both.
The gym is quite well appointed with a mix of cardio machines and weights. There is also a free self-service laundry area. Absolutely brilliant as my stay is for a month! WiFi is also free throughout the hotel.
Staff are very friendly and helpful. I'm sorry I'm bad with names but the lady who checked us in was very welcoming. The gentleman on the rear ground floor was very helpful with directions. The restaurant staff are all lovely and Mike was very helpful in sorting out bus times, which brings me to travel. Wong Chuk Hang is not yet connected to the MTR but it is coming soon! There are buses and you can get around using a combination of bus and train quite easily. Once the MTR comes this hotel will be very well connected. Give it a try. You will be glad you did
