4.2. Carcass traits
The GR values increased while rib fat depth was not altered,
reflecting that muscular tissue development in lycopene-added
groups was superior to the control, which was most likely due to
the higher CP intake, and nitrogen was efficiently used. No paper
has been published that describes the effect of dietary lycopene
on the carcass performance in livestock animals, except for Sahin
et al. (2006) who reported that lycopene supplementation in diets
increased cold carcass weight and yield of broilers under heat stress
conditions.
