One under-investigated area in
which mechanical effects are likely to be discovered in
future studies is the physical manipulation of insect behaviour
by plant surface topography.
As insects can respond
to tactile cues, they may be guided by the physical structure
of plants [58], and plants may have evolved to exploit
these effects to their advantage.
